Danny Murphy has claimed that Liverpool are yet to see the best of Ibrahima Konate this season.
The pundit believes “that needs to change” as the Reds defender will be “vital” now that Joel Matip is on the sidelines.
Konate has lacked consistency at times this season, and there have been occasions where he has looked short on confidence for Liverpool.
On Thursday, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp took the 24-year-old off at half time, bringing Joe Gomez on in his place alongside Jarell Quansah.
Admittedly, Klopp confirmed that this was a pre-arranged substitution intended to give Quansah an opportunity to familiarise himself with different centre-back partners.
However, Konate’s status seems to be that of a squad rotation player at present, which is obviously concerning going forward.
Murphy, writing on BBC Sport, believes Konate needs to up his game as Liverpool will be relying on his more in Matip’s absence.

“And with Joel Matip injured, that needs to change. His pace and power, plus his ability to cover for Trent, will all be vital.”
Konate is a superb player who looks like he can get better and better. However, he does seem short of confidence at present.
With Quansah now staking a claim for a starting spot in the Liverpool starting XI, this will increase competition, and Konate will definitely need to up his game.
Obviously we all know form is temporary, and the France international will no doubt step it up and give Klopp food for thought as Liverpool strive for glory this season.
Liverpool are next in action on Sunday when they host beleaguered Manchester United at Anfield in a 4:30pm Premier League kickoff.
