Liverpool have perhaps been the surprise package in the Premier League this season.
After finishing fifth last term and losing a number of key players in the summer, many thought that the Reds may be in for yet another difficult season.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side have kicked on once again, and now, they’re challenging for the Premier League title.
Many of Liverpool’s key players have performed above expectations this term, and speaking to Squawka, Glen Johnson has highlighted one Liverpool player in particular who has surprised him.

Johnson spoke about Alexis Mac Allister’s performances this season and how he’s been shocked.
“He’s come up and he’s been playing out of position and sacrificing some of his ability to do a job for the team which I think he’s done well. But he’s also been getting on the scoresheet and scoring some really big goals,” Johnson said.
“So yeah I think he’s surprised me in a sense of how well he’s adapted because he’s fantastic going forward but he’s been asked to play in a deeper role and it just shows you how professional the guy is and how much he wants to help the team.
“I think he’s surprised me how well he’s adapted to that role, because we know what he’s capable of going forward but to sit there and create play from deep, I think he’s won a lot of people over.”
Alexis Mac Allister keeps getting better
Glen Johnson says he’s been shocked by how good Mac Allister has been, but he shouldn’t be surprised by this point.
Mac Allister has shown over the past few years that he has this uncanny knack of improving year on year.
From Argentinos Juniors, to Brighton, to the World Cup to starring for Liverpool, Mac Allister seems to go up a level every single season, and if he continues on this trajectory, it won’t be long before he’s considered one of the very best midfielders in the world.
The £35m man has to be considered one of the best signings of the season.
