'Surprised': Journalist says two Liverpool youngsters have 'especially' wowed Klopp in training lately

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been “pleasantly surprised” by how Ben Doak and Jarell Quansah have fared for the Reds so far this season.

This is according to journalist Lewis Steele, who recently held a Q&A on the Daily Mail website. Liverpool fans asked him a number of questions about the Reds.

Liverpool supporters quizzed Steele on a number of topics including January transfer window plans, tactics and how the Reds players fit in.

One Liverpool fan asked him whether the Reds will be targeting anyone in the January window and, if so, in which positions.

Steele admitted that he didn’t expect the Anfield outfit to have a particularly busy window on the incoming front.

Unless there are injuries to key players, Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to push for signings because of how the academy players have stepped up, said Steele.

“I was told last week that rumours linking Liverpool with Brazilian midfielder Andre Trindade were not as clear-cut as they seemed,” he said.

“Therefore, sorry to say Liverpool fans, I think it’ll be a quiet January in terms of incomings.

“That could change of course, especially if there was an injury to a key player, but I’m not expecting too much movement.

“Young players have stepped up so far this season to make up the numbers in the squad – Ben Doak and Jarell Quansah especially – and Jurgen Klopp has been left pleasantly surprised by their development.

“Because of that, I don’t think Liverpool are in a rush to sign anyone.”

Liverpool continue to produce top talents – TBR View

Doak, as the youngest of the Liverpool academy graduates, looks like he has an especially outstanding future ahead of him.

He has only just turned 18, but already he has made eight competitive appearances for the Reds.

Described by Liverpool icon James Milner as having ‘absolutely incredible’ abilities, the teenager certainly looks like he has a very bright future ahead of him.

Quansah has also stepped up since making his Liverpool debut away at Newcastle at the start of the season.

The 20-year-old defender has clocked up nine senior appearances so far.

Earlier this season, Klopp told the Liverpool media team in September that Quansah is a “fantastic” talent who had a “super” pre-season.

Liverpool have a great track record of producing top talents who go on to become superb footballers. Let’s hope for more of the same.
