'Sulking': Richard Keys suggests Klopp could drop Liverpool's £34m player against Man City on Sunday

Richard Keys has suggested that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could drop Mohamed Salah against Manchester City on Sunday.

In his blog post, Keys was unimpressed by the impact the Egyptian has made this season.

Salah hasn’t reached the same standards as is normally expected from the 30-year-old.

Klopp started Salah against Arsenal on Sunday, but hooked the attacker after 70 minutes.

Salah hasn’t scored in the Premier League since Liverpool defeat by Manchester United in August.

He’s scored in Liverpool last two Champions League matches, but isn’t hitting the same heights Liverpool fans are used to.

Liverpool have struggled across the pitch this season, and Salah’s drop-in form isn’t an isolated incident.

However, with games coming quickly as the World Cup approaches, Klopp needs to manage his squad’s minutes.

Keys: Klopp could drop Salah

Talking about Salah, Keys said: “But what on earth has happened to Liverpool? It’s deeper than a sulking Salah being way off the mark.

“Why? I could understand a slow start if he’d got better. But he hasn’t.

“And we haven’t seen anything from him since the African Cup of Nations. Nothing.

“Klopp took him off Sunday – I wonder if he’ll consider not starting him in the next league game?”

The opportunity for Klopp to drop Salah may have already gone after the Arsenal game.

An injury to Luis Diaz – who was one of Liverpool’s most exciting players yesterday – means Klopp has lost one of his best attackers.

Mark Lawrenson said Salah has looked ‘off the pace’ this season, and everything he tries isn’t working.

Salah signed a new contract at Liverpool in July, and Alan Shearer believed it was an ‘absolutely huge’ achievement.

However, his poor form this season may worry the Liverpool hierarchy, who have made the £34m signing from Roma their best paid player.

It would be a seriously bold move from Klopp to drop Salah against the Premier League champions.

On his day, he’s still one of the most talented players in the Premier League, and has cause City havoc in the past.
