‘Suggested to me’: David Ornstein says ‘consistently outstanding’ player does not want to leave Liverpool

David Ornstein has shared the information he has been given about the future of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

The Athletic journalist has noted what Salah’s plans are regarding Liverpool at this moment in time.

So, what has been reported about Liverpool and Egypt international forward Mohamed Salah? Let’s take a look.

Mohamed Salah wants to stay at Liverpool

Well, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah does not plan on leaving the Premier League club anytime soon.

Ornstein has noted that Salah wants to continue to play for Liverpool beyond the end of the season and could stay at Anfield for longer.

The Egypt international forward, who, according to former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood is “consistently outstanding every single game” and is “always a threat” is under contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2025.

There was interest in Salah from the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023, and the former Chelsea player has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2024 as well.

When asked in a Q&A in The Athletic if it is a foregone conclusion that Salah will leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia at the end of the season, Ornstein said: “I have no firm/fresh info on this, Omar, but to my knowledge it definitely is not a foregone conclusion and if any agreements have been struck they are either informal or have been kept secret.

“It was suggested to me some weeks ago – as mentioned on a previous Q&A – that Salah is still keen to compete at the top level beyond this season and that there was a good chance he stays longer at Liverpool.

“But we haven’t heard anything about contract talks (I think Liverpool are planning to start addressing these situations in the new year) and come July he’ll have only 12 months left on his terms.

“The Saudi Pro League was never expected to reignite its pursuit of Salah in January but unless Liverpool get something sorted in the next few months it would be no surprise to see another big push next summer.”

I hope Mohamed Salah stays at Liverpool

I hope that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah does not leave at the end of the season. I sincerely hope that he stays at Anfield.

Salah is a world-class player who is still doing well. He is 31 now, but he is not showing any signs of slowing down.

The forward is banging in the goals for fun and remains as potent as ever. It would be a shame for Liverpool and the Premier League if he left in the summer of 2024.

Salah has scored 11 goals and given seven assists in 17 Premier League matches for Liverpool so far this season. The forward has also scored three goals in two UEFA Europa League starts for Jurgen Klopp’s side this campaign.
