Jurgen Klopp has announced he’s leaving Liverpool, sending shockwaves across Merseyside.
As you can imagine, the red half of Liverpool are devastated by the fact Klopp is leaving, while the blue half of the city are gloating as the Reds lose a key figure to their success.
The reaction around Liverpool has been massive, and there’s also been quite the ripple effect across Germany.
Of course, as one of the biggest footballing figures from Germany, any news about Klopp will have an effect on what’s going on in Europe, and according to Raphael Honigstein, speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, the reaction in Germany has been that of shock an optimism as fans begin to anticipate a potential arrival as the German national team manager.

Honigstein spoke about the reaction in Germany.
“It’s a strange mix of shock and optimism. The vision that Klopp will arrive as the national team manager before too long, there’s a sense of anticipation almost between those two poles I think. Klopp is the iconic football figure that Germany haven’t had since Franz Beckenbauer post-playing career, he’s the biggest football personality in Germany, so this is massive news,” Honigstein said.
Exciting
We can absolutely understand why Germans are excited about this news.
Klopp has felt like he was destined to take the Germany job at some point, and the stars may be aligning for that to happen.
Klopp seemingly wants a lower-energy job, and moving into international management may well be the way to go.
Factor in that Julian Nagelsmann’s contract is up after the Euros in the summer, and perhaps Klopp could soon be in that hotseat.
Klopp’s next job could well be as the German national team manager.
