218 Darwin Nunez is undoubtedly one of the most polarising players in the Premier League right now.
The Uruguayan is a player that you either love or don’t understand.
For some, he’s this all-action, chaos-causing striker who can be a real asset to the team, but to others, he’s too wasteful and rash to ever be a world-class player.
Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright has now gone out to bat for Nunez, claiming that he doesn’t understand why people are still questioning him after he hit 10 goals and 10 assists for the season over the weekend.
Wright backs Nunez
The pundit spoke highly of the Liverpool ace.
“Nunez getting his goals, he has 10 goals now and 10 assists, and people are still questioning him.
“He’s the first player to 10 goals and 10 assists this season in the Premier League,” Wright’s co-host said.
“Exactly, but he’s still getting stick,” Wright replied.
Unorthodox
No matter the numbers Nunez is putting up, he will always have his detractors due to his style of play.
Yes, stats are becoming more and more prevalent within football, and Nunez’s goals and assists speak for themselves, but most people do still judge players by how they look when they watch them.
To say Nunez is unorthodox would be an understatement. The way he plays is unlike any other player we can remember, his mix of pace, strength, height and intensity make him a very strange player to watch, while the fact that he’s not all that graceful on the ball doesn’t help either.
Nunez is a talented player who does a job for Liverpool, but, at the same time, as strange as it sounds, he doesn’t always look like a Premier League footballer when he’s on the pitch.
The Uruguayan isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if he continues scoring and assisting, Liverpool won’t mind too much.
