‘Still a question mark’: Pundit says £15m Liverpool player may need replacing soon

Wataru Endo is coming into his own at Liverpool now.

The Japan international has been playing better and better in recent weeks after what was a shaky start at Anfield.

He scored a fantastic goal against Fulham, he played very well against Manchester United, and he was solid against West Ham on Wednesday evening too.

There has been plenty of chat about Liverpool signing a new defensive midfielder in January, but after Endo’s uptick in form, many are now wondering whether or not that move would be necessary.

Speaking on ESPN, Craig Burley has had it put to him that Liverpool may not need a new defensive midfield signing in January, and he’s stated that he still has huge question marks around the £15m man.

Burley still not sure on Endo

The pundit gave his verdict on the £15m man.

“With Endo picking up some form recently. Do Liverpool have to go shopping for a defensive midfielder in January?” Burley was asked.

“Well he wasn’t that great against Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago. Thiago is not a defensive midfielder, but he’s certainly deeper. Endo didn’t play great at Palace, there wasn’t a need for a defensive job to be done in the United game, nor was there in the Palace game, so there’s still a question mark out about his longevity in the starting 11 for sure,” Burley said.

Better out there

As well as Endo has played, Liverpool mustn’t be blind to the fact that there are beter options out there.

If you’re going to win a Premier League title these days, you need a borderline world-class player in every single position, and, unfortunately, Endo just isn’t in that bracket of player.

Endo has done better than many would’ve expected him to, but he’s still one of the weaker links in this Liverpool team and it shouldn’t be too hard for Liverpool to find an upgrade in January.
