Xabi Alonso has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, and Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest on his future at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Spaniard is a wanted man. He has done a remarkable job at Leverkusen and is all set to win the Bundesliga title there this season ahead of Bayern Munich. That’s why Liverpool want to appoint him as their new manager this summer.

Xabi Alonso has been in the news a lot over the last few weeks.
The 42-year-old is not just Liverpool’s priority target to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer, Bayern Munich want him to succeed Thomas Tuchel as well.
Alonso will not be short of offers at the end of the season, but there have been suggestions that the Spaniard could actually end up staying at Bayer Leverkusen for another year.
However, Fabrizio Romano has spoken to his sources about the above, and he has been told that there is a ‘very small percentage’ chance that Alonso will continue at the BayArena beyond the end of this season.
The journalist wrote in his Daily Briefing: “My understanding is that Xabi Alonso himself wants to take some time because he wants to focus on Bayer Leverkusen. They are doing something historical this season and he doesn’t want any distraction.
“So, he knows about this interest, obviously, but at the moment he doesn’t want to sign anything or to agree with any club in February, in March, because his focus remains on Bayer Leverkusen.
“Some important people at Leverkusen also hope he could be persuaded to stay for one more year. But my opinion, from speaking to some sources, is that it’s going to be very difficult. I think it’s a very small percentage that we see Xabi Alonso staying at Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.”

If Xabi Alonso is leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer, Liverpool should back themselves to get him.
The Reds have a massive job on their hands as they look to replace Jurgen Klopp. The German is one of the best managers in the world, and whoever succeeds him will find it difficult.
Alonso seems to be almost every Liverpool fan’s pick for the Anfield hotseat. It is clear that he will have the support of everyone if accepts the job, which is why we think there’s a big chance he will say yes.
The next few weeks will be very interesting as we expect both Liverpool and Bayern Munich to push for his signature. If Alonso doesn’t stay at Leverkusen, we think he will end up at Anfield.
