The 24 year old received the award on Friday at Melwood.
We’ve started a new month, and with that comes the end of month awards, as always.
New number 10 Sophie Roman Haug was voted by fans as the Standard Chartered Player of the Month for the month of December, and was presented with the award by manager Matt Beard on Friday at Melwood.
Roman Haug has already scored four goals in 10 appearances since signing for the Red Women last summer, including the equalizer in December’s draw with Bristol City before the winter break.
“I want to say thank you to the fans for voting for me first of all,” Roman Haug told the club website.
“This means a lot to me and because it’s the fans that vote, it means a lot. The fans have been incredible since I got here. I’m really honoured that they voted for me and it makes it extra-special, so I’m very grateful.
“December was a good month for us, we had some good games and we finished with that win against Manchester United, which was a nice way to [go] into the Christmas break.”
The Reds are hard at work currently training for the return of the season shortly, and Haug in particular is itching to get back out there and keep scoring. They return to action on Sunday, January 14th in the FA Cup fourth round, facing Bristol City once again.
“We are looking forward to getting out on the pitch again and it will be a fun game,” Roman Haug said.
“We played Bristol City in December and it was a tough game, but we are looking forward to it and we will be ready. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and playing lots of games alongside these girls.”
