166 Harvey Elliott is really finding his feet now at Liverpool.
The young midfielder is coming into his own at Anfield now, he’s becoming one of the Reds’ more important players, making a serious impact off the bench in recent weeks.
Elliott is blessed with an incredible amount of technical ability, and, interestingly, his performances in recent weeks have now drawn comparisons to a former Liverpool star.
Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Nigel Reo-Coker has now compared Elliott to Yossi Benayoun, claiming that he has that something special to make things happen in the final third.
Elliott compared to Benayoun
Reo-Coker shared his view on the young midfielder.
“Harvey Elliott has done well and what I like about Harvey Elliott is, if you look back at the Manchester United game, Liverpool needed someone to come on who was slightly different, someone technical to unlock that door. That’s what Elliott brings to this Liverpool side, I’m not saying he’s the same player, but he’s a bit like Yossi Benayoun where you bring him in and he changes the dynamic of how Liverpool play in that final third to make that final pass and to be something special and different to make it happen for them,” Reo-Coker said.
High ceiling
We can understand the Benayoun comparisons here, but we would be hoping that Elliott can reach a much higher level than Benayoun ever did.
With all due respect, Benayoun was never the main man for any of the clubs he played for, but at the age of just 20, we’d be hoping that Elliott can eventually morph into one of Liverpool’s most important players.
Being the next Yossi Benayoun isn’t a bad thing at all, but Elliott’s ceiling is surely much higher than that.
It’s exciting to ponder just how far this young man can go within this game.
