Jurgen Klopp is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Klopp is departing Anfield this summer, but as one era ends at Anfield another begins.
However, it may not be the manager who defines the next era at Liverpool.
Indeed, the Reds have already made an important appointment for their future in the shape of Michael Edwards.
Edwards is to head up the football department at FSG for the foreseeable future, and speaking on Stick To Football, Jamie Carragher has shared a theory about Edwards’ return.
Indeed, Carragher reckons that the fact Edwards is returning at a time when Klopp is leaving is no coincidence, claiming that the two must’ve fallen out towards the end of Edwards’ first tenure at Liverpool.

Carragher shared his theory on Klopp and Edwards.
“What’s really interesting here is that Michael Edwards, the Sporting Director, he was there at the start with Klopp, and they’ve obviously fell out, and as soon as he’s gone, it’s like the band are back together. It’s obvious something has happened behind the scenes, but FSG almost felt it was more important to get that structure back rather than who the next manager is,” Carragher said.
Jamie Carragher’s theory adds up
While we don’t like to speculate too much about behind-the-scenes drama at a club like Liverpool, we have to say that Carragher’s theory here does add up.
The fact that Edwards has returned to Liverpool almost the instant Jurgen Klopp announced he was leaving does raise questions, and perhaps there wasn’t too much synergy between the two at Anfield.
Regardless, Edwards was fantastic at his job first time around at Liverpool, and if he can replicate the same results this time, Liverpool will be in a good place to kick on again and challenge for major honours again.
