Liverpool’s search for a new manager continues to be a bit of a mystery.
After Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, we’re completely in the dark over who the Reds will hire this summer to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Almost every bright young manager in Europe has been linked at this point, and according to David Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, there has been some chat about one manager already in the Premier League.

The Reds have cast an admiring glance over to one of their rivals.
Indeed, according to Ornstein, Eddie Howe has been mentioned in dispatches at Anfield, but the expectation is that he will continue at Newcastle for the time being.
“Because of the process it’s been suggested to us that people like Thiago Motta score well on the data, Simone Inzaghi scores well on the data. Fonseca has done well at Lille, when people like me have mentioned Tuchel, it’s because he is available, not that Liverpool are going for him. Eddie Howe, some have mentioned him in dispatches, but as far as we know he’s going to continue at Newcastle,” Ornstein said.
Eddie Howe may be best off moving
Things have been going well for Eddie Howe at Newcastle over the past two years, but, at the same time, we can’t help but feel like he may be best off moving this summer.
There’s always been this undercurrent of speculation around Howe’s future and the idea that Newcastle would, eventually, potentially want a bigger name through the door.
Meanwhile, at Liverpool, he would perhaps be given a bit more time to implement his ideas and work with the young players, especially after quite an underwhelming season at St James’ Park.
If an offer from Liverpool comes in, perhaps Howe’s best course of action would be to take it.
Let’s see whether or not Howe does feature more in Liverpool conversations in the coming weeks.
