The midfielder went off injured against West Ham.

In an otherwise excellent game when Liverpool beat West Ham 3-1 at Prenton Park, the Reds were hit with an injury blow in the first half.

Midfielder Sofia Lundgaard went off hobbling on Sunday, and on Tuesday scans came back to show that she had damaged her medial ligament. Knee injuries are always a huge setback for a player, and this time Lundgaard has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The club doctor released the following statement: “Sofie sustained a knee injury during Sunday’s game which was confirmed to be ligament damage following a scan.

“She will now begin a period of rehabilitation at the club and will miss the final games of the season.”

With six more games to go in the season, including their next game against Everton at Goodison Park this weekend, Lundgaard will be missed in Matt Beard’s squad. She’s been a consistent face in the midfield this season.

The Reds are currently in fifth place, but on level points with Manchester United in fourth and only six points behind third place Arsenal. It’s a very outside chance, but if Liverpool put in a strong end to their season and get a bit of luck as well, they could sneak into that last Champions League spot, which would be a huge accomplishment.
