‘So stupid’: Tim Sherwood tells Erik ten Hag to be harsh with 29-year-old Manchester United player

Tim Sherwood has given his take on Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes not playing against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager believes that United boss Erik ten Hag needs to have a chat with Fernandes.

So, what has Tim Sherwood said about Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes? Let’s take a look.

Tim Sherwood wants Erik ten Hag to have a word with Bruno Fernandes

Well, Manchester United will take on Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes will not play in the match for the Red Devils. The 29-year-old Portugal international attacking midfielder is suspended.

The former Sporting Lisbon star got his fifth yellow card of the season against Bournemouth last weekend. He was cautioned in the second half for complaining to the referee.

This means that Fernandes will not play against Liverpool. BeIN SPORT presenter Richard Keys believes that the 29-year-old picked up the booking on purpose.

The United no. 8 has scored three goals and given three assists in 16 Premier League matches and has scored two goals and provided two assists in six UEFA Champions League games this season.

Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (2:14 pm, December 16, 2023): “Why is the captain not there? We watched the game last week when he knows he is on four bookings. He knows he is on four bookings, he knows he is going to get booked for the mistake he makes, he knows he is going to miss the Liverpool game.

“If I am the manager, I am asking him questions. I am saying, ‘Why did you do something so stupid because we need every player we can get at the moment and you have let us down?’

“Is he telling him the home truth? I don’t think he is. It’s alright having a go at Sancho, have a little pop at Rashford, but he won’t have a pop at the players he should be talking to, and they are the ones who are wearing the armbands at his football club and leading by example.”

Liverpool favourites vs Manchester United

In my view, Liverpool are favourites to win against Manchester United. Even if Bruno Fernandes were available, it would not have made much of a difference.

Liverpool have the better team and are at in better. Moreover, they are playing at Anfield where they have a very good record against United in recent years.

Of course, we know that in football anything is possible, but I find it hard to see United pick up even a point on Sunday.
