'So many attributes': TalkSPORT pundit says Liverpool now have a 'super' player who'll just keep improving

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez was in the headlines this weekend again but for all the wrong reasons this time around.

Nunez found the net at Bournemouth in midweek with a spectacular goal. However, he missed an absolute sitter against Luton this weekend to show just why there are question marks over him as Liverpool’s main man.

The Reds paid big money to land Nunez and the 24-year-old has shown flashes of quality, with Jurgen Klopp backing him as well.

And speaking on The Premier League All Access podcast, Dean Ashton has also backed Nunez.

Dean Ashton backs ‘super’ Darwin Nunez to shine for Liverpool

Speaking about Nunez, Ashton had some kind words for the Uruguayan.

“I wouldn’t say he’s unlucky no because some of the chances are excellent chances that you’d expect a top striker to take. I think it’s on him. I think he’s still developing. I think he still needs to improve that clinical-ness. But the amount and volume of opportunities he’s getting tells me he’s a super player in that sense and that can improve and will improve I think as the games and the seasons go on for Darwin Nunez. I think he will (get it right) and I think the volume of chances he’s getting show that,” Ashton said.

“He’s got so many attributes you’d want in that position. I think his movement is decent. He still gets caught offside too many times for my liking. But even if you look at the very best, they miss a lot of chances. But they keep getting in there, and getting there. And I do think he’ll get better and better.”

Nunez can be a star at Anfield

There are definitely some inconsistencies with Darwin Nunez and and we’ve seen those highlighted to a tee this past week.

However, over the course of his Liverpool career, he should turn out to be a superb player. Nunez has so much going for him that it would take quite a lot for him to completely fail as Liverpool’s number nine.

The Uruguayan has pace, power and good feet in tight situations and as Ashton says, he gets himself into great positions so often.

Nunez will go on to get bags of goals for Liverpool. It’s just a case of harnessing his attributes and keeping going.

In years to come, fans will look back at Nunez and there’s no doubt he’ll have breached the 100 goal mark for the Reds.
