Liverpool lost to Everton on Wednesday evening and it’s fair to say that the wheels have well and truly come off in terms of the Reds’ title race.

It would take a miracle for Liverpool to win the league from here, and now, the inquest has begun into where it’s all gone wrong.

Indeed, fingers are being pointed all around the Liverpool camp at the moment, and speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has singled out one Liverpool player in particular.

Jamie Carragher says one Liverpool player has gone backwards

Carragher spoke about Mohamed Salah’s performances this season, claiming that he’s been a shadow of his former self.

“I actually thought at the start of the second half, Liverpool were in control of the game, and I thought goals were coming.

If Liverpool got one, they would go on and get two. I though Liverpool started the second half really well, and then Mo Salah gave a ball away. And Liverpool should defend the corner a lot better, again.

Mo Salah gave the ball away. He looked a shadow of himself for a lot of this season, but especially since he has come back from injury. And he is Liverpool’s legend, superstar, you know, one of the all-time greats. But he has been so far off.”

Mohamed Salah has still been brilliant

We can understand what Carragher is saying here, Salah has been off the pace at times this season.

But if you’re still scoring 17 league goals while being a so-called shadow of yourself then you must be something special.

Don’t get us wrong, Salah could’ve been better at times this term, but, at the same time, he’s still produced the goods at an incredible rate and has been one of Liverpool’s best players – as he always is.

Of course, emotions are running high at the moment, and everyone is looking for a scapegoat, but Salah isn’t necessarily the first person to point the finger at.
