Gary Neville has admitted that the timing of the announcement of Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool at the end of the season has ‘shocked’ him.
The news broke last weekend that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Anfield this summer.
Liverpool announced the German’s decision last Friday, with Klopp admitting he is simply ‘running out of energy’.
The announcement shocked the footballing world, particularly as Klopp’s contract was set to run until 2026.
Klopp’s men are also currently in the hunt for a Premier League title as they lead the way after 22 games played. And the timing of the announcement has left Gary Neville surprised.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Neville admitted that the timing of Klopp’s decision had taken him by surprise.
He said: “Does the timing of the Klopp announcement coincide with the fact that it allows Liverpool to get five or six months for a new manager?
“The timing was the thing that has sort of shocked me a little bit. Not the fact he was leaving.”

But this could spur Liverpool’s players and supporters on for the remainder of the campaign.
Everyone at Anfield will undoubtedly be desperate to give Klopp the send-off he deserves.
The German remains firmly in the hunt for a quadruple this term as Liverpool have already booked their place in the EFL Cup final.
The Reds lead the way in the league and also remain in the FA Cup and Europa League.
