‘Sensational’: BBC pundit says 28-year-old midfielder could be the missing piece for Liverpool now

Liverpool head into 2024 at the top of the Premier League, and they’re in a great position to go on and win the title.

The Reds have lost just one game so far this season and even that was via a dodgy VAR call against Tottenham.

Liverpool are onto something special, and the right additions in January could be enough to get them over the line.

So, what do the Reds need this month? Well, a new holding midfielder could be just what the doctor ordered.

Wataru Endo has been brilliant as of late, but there isn’t much depth in that spot and the Japan international is heading off to the Asian Cup very soon.

Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Nigel Reo-Coker has been discussing what Liverpool need to do in January, and he’s named Joao Palhinha as a player who could be the missing piece for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Palhinha could be what Liverpool need

Reo-Coker shared his verdict on the 28-year-old.

“I think the biggest player for me is Palhinha, he is a sensational midfielder, he’s a big difference-maker in this Fulham side. For me, the January window is coming up, we know there is interest from big clubs, one club that is fighting for the title and are missing that type of midfielder is Liverpool, if Liverpool get Palhinha, would you say that is the title for Liverpool?” Reo-Coker said.

Perfect

Reo-Coker is onto something here, Palhinha could be perfect for Liverpool.

The Portuguese midfielder is just what the Merseyside club needs, he can protect that backline and play with the intensity that the Reds lacked so often last term.

Palhinha is a top class player, and if Liverpool were to get hold of him, they would have one of the most complete midfields in the Premier League.

Perhaps this is one to keep an eye on this month.
