This perplexing deal rolls on.

Liverpool FC have reportedly had a €30 million bid for Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili turned down, with the Spanish club seeking €40 million to let the Georgian goalkeeper go.

According to Tribuna Deportiva, Liverpool are not expected to return with a new bid, even though the player was keen on the move. Should he have joined Liverpool, he would have been stashed away at another club on loan, possibly staying at the Metsalla or even another Premier League club like Bournemouth.

It’s good that Liverpool took the proactive approach with this, although all it really does is raise more questions. Does the club know something about Alisson Becker that we don’t? Are we really going to switch to a keeper without sweeping skills after Alisson’s time at the club is done? Are there more deals like this being worked on that we don’t know about? What am I going to have for lunch after writing this?

Questions. We have many of them. The end of the window beckons, and Liverpool have a lot to do before August 30th. We’ll find out if we are genuinely buying the keeper of our future and loaning him out, if we are indeed not purchasing a defensive midfielder, and a host of other recruitment and contract renewal-related questions soon enough.
