With Spurs in need of a centre half, the rumour mongers have decided to link Joe Gomez—who it’s impossible to imagine Liverpool would sell in January.

With Liverpool facing something of a defensive injury crisis with centre half Joël Matip and left backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas out injured and only Robertson likely to be back any time soon, Joe Gomez—who started the year four choice centre half and second choice right back—is a key homegrown depth option at both centre half and fullback for Jürgen Klopp’s title challenging Reds.

The 26-year-old is also under contract until 2027, or a full three seasons beyond the current campaign. Nobody with any sense, then, would be likely to link Gomez with a January move away from the club. What that makes The Mail’s Matt Barlow, then, we leave up to the reader, as the tabloid transfer spinner has decided to set Gomez out as one of the top options for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham

Postecoglou has said he would like to see the club “do business early” following an injury to centre half Cristian Romero, and while one can imagine a world where Gomez might be an option were Liverpool not in a title race and down three key defenders, well, Liverpool are in a title race and down three key defenders—and Gomez has been in the midst of something of a career revival this season.

According to The Mail, Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, Genoa’s Radu Dragusin, and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo are other options, though we can’t speak with authority as to whether they’re actually any more viable than Gomez. We can simply speak to the Gomez question. And there, the answer is obvious: hahaha, no.
