Carvalho has been a standout in pre-season but rumour has it the Reds are willing to sell for the right price.
A well-taken goal against Manchester United on Saturday put an exclamation point on a strong pre-season for promising 21-year-old Liverpool forward Fabio Carvalho, but it may be that the player’s future still lies away from Anfield.
That’s the latest in the land of transfer rumours after claims emerged that Southampton had seen a bid that could rise to £15M rejected—but with Liverpool said to be open to selling for the right price despite Carvalho’s impressive pre-season.
Now, outlets including CaughtOffside are claiming an improved Southampton bid is in the works that could hit £20M, a fee that still feels low in the current market given Carvalho’s clear talent and his performances before joining the Reds.
Still, it would represent a significant profit on the £7.7M Liverpool paid Fulham to sign the player back in 2022—even if that fee was widely seen as a bargain and paid as training compensation for a young player out of contract.
Born in Portugal but growing up in London, Carvalho qualifies as domestically trained. Having failed to make the cut under Jürgen Klopp, Carvalho has signalled he might favour a move despite the arrival of new manager Arne Slot.
Slot has said he sees Carvalho as a left winger in his system, arguably the club’s deepest position with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nuñez all at least capable of taking minutes there—and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon heavily linked.
