The arrival of Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid has the Spanish press talking up a potential departure for Rodrygo this week.
This summer has already brought with it plenty of Rodrygo chatter that seems likeliest to come to nothing for Liverpool fans, including claims first that the Reds had had a €120M bid rejected and then claims Real Madrid would accept €100M.
Mostly, though, any Rodrygo chatter has been set to a background assumption of the 23-year-old Brazilian winger being committed to staying at Madrid for the upcoming season and battling for minutes despite the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.
However, the latest round of rumour mongering out of Spain is now questioning that assumption, with Sport suggesting the winger in fact quite worried about the knock-on effect Mbappe’s arrival could have on his minutes this season.
As they see it, Madrid will have to show Rodrygo he still has a key role to play when he returns to the club for pre-season—that Mbappe will primarily play at striker while he keeps his spot on the wing—and if they can’t he might push for a move.
It’s all rather speculative, of course, but it’s the first time the Spanish press haven’t simply said that Rodrygo is determined to stay and fight, and if he is available it’s Liverpool along with Manchester City and Arsenal floated as potential destinations.
