The midfielder and the Istanbul outfit are due for a divorce due to a planned wage cut.
This was buried in David Ornstein’s bombshell column with the news of Liverpool FC’s move for Martin Zubimendi: former LFC midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Besiktas are looking at options for him to move back to the Premier League.
The main reason for this is that Istanbul club are undergoing a restructuring of their squad with plans to reduce their wage bill. Both parties are trying to reach an amicable solution and allow him to return to the UK, with both a permanent transfer and loan deal being looked at for the Ox.
It’ll be interesting to see where the Ox ends up. I did think he looked really poor near the end of his time at Liverpool, but perhaps being in a less intense system will better suit what he can do as a player now. Perhaps, his versatility and experience will come in handy for a team in the lower half of the Premier League table.
