Whispers of Barcelona interest in Luis Diaz continue but for Liverpool any sale would have to come early in the window and take a minimum £75M fee.

Liverpool are preparing for Arne Slot’s first season in charge in the expectation that there will be minimal changes—and especially few significant departures—to a side that finished a strong third under Jürgen Klopp last season following a midfield rebuild.

The goal for the club is keeping the core together and adding a few key players, not to make major changes. Despite that, one name that has so far received plenty of attention on the potential departure front is 27-year-old Colombian left winger Luis Diaz.

In part that’s because the player’s father has made no secret of his desire to see his son one day play for Barcelona. With that as the backdrop, media in Spain in particular have been quick to link Diaz as a potential upgrade for current Barca left winger Raphinha.

Over the past week, there have even been suggestions out of Spain that talks are planned between the club and Diaz’ agents in the coming week or two. However, Liverpool have today signalled though their friendly press that they’ve yet to hear anything.

If there is interest—at Barcelona or in the Diaz camp—to get a move done, from Liverpool’s point of view it would have to happen early, well before the season kicks off in order for signings to be made and integrated. And Barcelona would have to pay £75M.

If Diaz is sold, it won’t be for a bargain and would have to happen sooner than later. Liverpool might be willing to deal, but they aren’t looking to, so the fee and timing would have to be on their terms. Which financially-troubled Barcelona might struggle with.
