As many as six Bundesliga sides have shown interest, and some have even made bids, but the Reds won’t let Van den Berg go on the cheap.

An ongoing transfer story for Liverpool this summer has been that of promising young centre half Sepp van den Berg, with the 22-year-old Dutch defender prioritizing playing time and a pathway to first team football and openly skeptical of that existing with the Reds.

It’s a situation that has led to regular links with a move away, with most of the chatter focusing in on Germany thanks to loans the last two seasons to Schalke and Mainz, but if he is to leave it will require a club to pay £20-25M and Liverpool are determined to stick to that valuation.

That’s the latest from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who has a mixed record at best when it comes to Liverpool but legitimate connections in the Bundesliga and says as six clubs there are interested—with a few of them even having seen firm bids rejected.

Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Mainz, Borussia Monchengladbach, and even Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen make up the list of supposedly interested clubs. However, with Liverpool not budging on the fee front, the suggestion is Van den Berg may be too costly for any of them.

As a result, some are hoping he might end up available for loan. Liverpool, though, have been impressed by Van den Berg in pre-season and, depending on where Joe Gomez fits into the mix, he could still end up the Reds’ fourth choice centre half this season.
