Silly season is accelerating.

With Arne Slot in place sans any sort of fanfare, the expectation is that the newly reconstituted recruitment group at Liverpool are hard at work getting things in place for next season, as both backroom staff and players should be sorted as soon as possible in order to aid the new head coach’s transition into the role at his new club.

As the Euros, Copa America and Olympics are all taking place this summer, clubs will want to get transfers done before the tournaments begin, national teams will want the opposite, and agents will want whatever gets them the biggest payday. As such, expect plenty of frantic rumours but little in the way of actual movement when the transfer window opens in a week’s time.

An example is today’s Ederson tumult, as the Brazilian was claimed to be subject of a soon-to-be-finalised 45m bid from Liverpool around six PM, then mooted as barely even on the shortlist less than three hours later.

A well-rounded ball winner and passer with a considerable physical presence, the Atalanta man was hugely impressive in the Bergamo side’s road to Europa League gold, as he anchored a midfield that handily outfought both of the competition’s favourites, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, and his development this season should make him a valid option for a number of clubs that are considered a step above Gian Piero Gasperini’s outfit.

According to reporters closer to Merseyside than French outlet SPORTS ZONE, though, not Liverpool. At the moment.
