The Brazilian winger has been linked to rejoin former boss, Arne Slot, on Merseyside.

With mere hours to go until the transfer window opens in Europe, we’re finally on the verge of transfer news as opposed to just rumors. Or, at least, rumors that are perhaps sourced with better reporting than what feels like transfer madlibs.

Unfortunately, we’re still not there and the rumor mongers decided to toss us a weird one that ticks a few of the old rumor categories: former player reunites with coach at new team and player provides something - in this case, goals - that new team needs. Which is how we get a story reported by the Daily Mirror on Feyenoord and Brazil winger, Igor Paixāo, being linked to Liverpool. A little bit of pressing on the story, though, reveals it’s a whole lot of nothing: Paixão is responding to questions on whether he’d be open to a move, reiterates he’s happy at Feyenoord, name-checks Liverpool and Slot (which is the “link), and then leaves things pretty open-ended.

There’s been no real reporting from Liverpool’s side of things related to Paixão and even allowing for the return of tight-lipped transfer dealings at Liverpool, it really wouldn’t make a lot of sense. Yes, the player bagged 12 goals in the previous campaign, but he plays on the left and his resume generally doesn’t seem to be up to par for who Liverpool would be buying. For example, while this isn’t necessarily a major transfer metric, I’m not sure that we’d be in for a 24 year-old who’s made no caps for the senior-level of his national team - one that many have pointed out at the Copa America might be a sub-par construction.

We’ll see soon enough who Liverpool are in for, but color us incredibly skeptical when it comes to this bit.
