Report: What Liverpool insiders are now saying about two Feyenoord players ahead of Arne Slot move

6 months ago 93

Liverpool insiders have reportedly indicated that two Feyenoord players have been tracked by the club ahead of Arne Slot’s proposed move to Merseyside.

Arne Slot looks set to be the man to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with an announcement expected to come this week.

Slot has enjoyed a successful spell at Feyenoord, delivering an Eredivisie title last term and a Dutch Cup this season.

Naturally, Liverpool have already been linked with moves for players currently working under the Dutchman.

Indeed, versatile defender Lutsharel Geertuida has been tipped to follow Slot to Anfield while in-form striker Santiago Gimenez has also been linked.

But a report from Sportscasting has claimed that the Reds may well focus on landing a couple of Feyenoord’s midfielders.

What Liverpool insiders have said about Feyenoord duo ahead of Slot move

The report claims that a move for a current Feyenoord midfielder may be more likely than swoops for Geertuida or Gimenez.

Quinten Timber and Mats Wieffer have both been tracked by Liverpool’s scouting department in advance of their interest in Slot, Liverpool insiders have stated.

It’s noted that Timber, brother of Arsenal star Jurrien Timber, has been tracked by Liverpool over the past couple of years.

Yet, he may well be too similar to the current midfielders at Liverpool as he operates in a box-to-box role.

As for Wieffer, he could prove to be more suited to Liverpool’s needs as a player who operates at the base of midfield.

Timber and Wieffer’s stats for Feyenoord

Both players have proven to be crucial to Slot’s success in Rotterdam.

Timber has racked up 43 appearances this season, netting eight times and providing nine assists. The 22-year-old has also earned one cap for the Netherlands after making his debut last month.

Wieffer has played just one less game than his midfield partner, having a hand in 10 goals in the process.

We’ve already seen plenty of turnover in midfield at Liverpool over the past year, with Klopp moving to bring in Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.

Despite Endo’s encouraging performances, Wieffer would seem like the best fit for Liverpool at the moment. The 24-year-old has impressed in the Eredivisie and has been capped nine times for Holland.
