It’s obviously going to be no easy task for Liverpool to replace a club legend like Jurgen Klopp heading into next season.
A few days on and Klopp’s announcement is still fixed in the minds of all Liverpool fans.
Photo by Charlotte Wilson/Offside/Offside via Getty ImagesIt already seems as if the club’s faithful would prefer the likes of Xabi Alonso or Roberto De Zerbi to arrive in the summer.
Alonso is a club icon, a former player now forging an incredibly impressive managerial career at Bayer Leverkusen.
De Zerbi on the other hand, is a manager proving his attacking credentials closer to home in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.
That being said, The Times have now given a detailed breakdown of how Liverpool intend to choose Klopp’s successor for next season.
The FSG president, Mike Gordon, will be instrumental in the choice, having also been key to Klopp’s appointment in 2015.
And as was the case back then, Liverpool will be led by data in their search, not emotion.
The report says a hire will only be made after research and number-crunching results in a clear and obvious candidate.
Liverpool will make data-led decision when replacing Jurgen Klopp next season
Perhaps the likes of Alonso and De Zerbi will fare well in that search, but it all remains to be seen.
It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if a candidate emerged that no one has mentioned just yet.

And given that Klopp informed the club of his decision back in November, fans may expect that the managerial search is already reaching its conclusions.
According to this report, Liverpool pitched Klopp against Carlo Ancelotti in 2015 when deciding the club’s next manager.
And whilst Klopp was enduring a difficult season with Borussia Dortmund, data suggested that was an anomaly – something that clearly proved correct.
Of course, fans will hope that the club has similar success when deciding Klopp’s replacement next season.
And perhaps beyond the data, Liverpool may also be factoring in the possibility of their next manager replacing Mohamed Salah – one of the many players Klopp has massively improved.
