Report: Two teenagers hoping to feature for Liverpool v Chelsea; Klopp thinks one is 'very smart'

Liverpool take on Chelsea this weekend in a battle of two of England’s biggest clubs who are struggling for form at the moment.

The Reds got themselves a win at Wolves in midweek to boost morale. Chelsea, too, beat Crystal Palace last weekend 1-0 to give themselves some form of platform. And with new signing Mykhaylo Mudryk ready to be unleashed, the Blues will fancy their chances.

However, Liverpool also have reason to be optimistic. Part of that optimism comes from the performances of some of their young players. At Wolves, both Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott played well, and according to The Times, both are hoping they’ve done enough to force their way into the XI this weekend.

Bajcetic, in particular, has been impressing when he’s played. Indeed, Jurgen Klopp sang his praises after Wolves.

“Good boy, good player. Very smart in his movements. The younger you are, the more important it is that you have a good start in the game. He had a few situations – I’m not sure if he saw that he had space or just hoped that he had space – when he turned and there actually was space. He did really well,” Klopp said.

Elliott, of course, scored a fine goal and has featured most weeks.

TBR’s View: Bajcetic and Elliott can ignite Liverpool’s season

One of the big problems for Liverpool this season has been them getting over run and out run in midfield.

However, the inclusions of Bajcetic and Elliott could help them overcome that issue. Sometimes, a smattering of youth and enthusiasm can be just what a team needs. And that’s not saying the likes of Henderson and Fabinho are past it by any means. It’s just that every so often an element of freshness is needed.

Chelsea at home is a different beast. But Bajcetic and Elliott did more than enough in midweek and would have no issue in going again.
