Tottenham Hotspur registered an interest in signing one Liverpool player during the January transfer window.
Spurs were the envy of many Premier League sides in January. While most clubs barely lifted a finger in the transfer market, Ange Postecoglou’s side welcomed both Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin to the club.
Dragusin’s arrival seemed particularly important for a Tottenham side which has had to deal with injuries to both of their starting centre-backs this season.
But the Romanian was not the only centre-back Spurs targeted. Tottenham were interested in Jean-Clair Todibo early on in the window. And according to the Daily Mail, they also made an enquiry about signing Joe Gomez from Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has been in an interesting position at Anfield over the last couple of years. At one stage, it appeared that he was going to be Virgil van Dijk’s long-term centre-back partner.

Liverpool’s most versatile defender
The England international has actually featured in all but four of the Reds’ Premier League games so far this season. However, it is probably fair to say that he has not had a regular spot in the side. Instead, he has often been used where Liverpool are dealing with injuries.
Gomez can play in either full-back role, as well as at centre-back. So you could understand why Postecoglou may have wanted Tottenham to ask about a deal at the start of this year. Many of the players within his squad are capable of being deployed in a number of different roles on the pitch.
Klopp has suggested that Gomez is a ‘wonderful‘ player. So it is no surprise that there was no movement. But Liverpool may perhaps already be braced for clubs to come calling in the summer.
