Report: ‘Special’ player Liverpool sold for £12m wants to return to Premier League

Jordan Henderson could be on the move again just months after leaving Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

That is according to The Times, which has reported what Henderson’s plans are in the January transfer window.

So, what has been reported about former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson? Let’s take a look.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson wants Premier League return

Well, Jordan Henderson left Liverpool for Al-Ettifaq in the summer of 2023. According to The Guardian, the transfer fee was £12 million plus add-ons. The England international midfielder is being paid £700,000 per week by the Saudi Pro League club.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was disappointed to see Henderson leave, but the German understood his decision and described him as “special”, as quoted in The Guardian.

The Times are now reporting that Henderson wants to leave Al-Ettifaq, who are being managed by Liverpool legend and former Anfield teammate Steven Gerrard.

The England international midfielder is reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League or a club in mainland Europe in the January transfer window.

“Henderson has found the drop in standard and low crowds in the Saudi Pro League a difficult adjustment and is hoping clubs at home — and abroad — will be alerted over a potential loan move in the first instance,” states the report.

My View: No return to Liverpool

Now, I have to make it clear that there is no rumour that Liverpool are interested in Jordan Henderson or that the midfielder himself wants to come back to Anfield in January.

But, you never know where the links might start. We are already seeing Roberto Firmino being tipped to go back to Liverpool just months after leaving the former Premier League champions.

I do not think that Liverpool need Henderson. He is 33 now and is past his prime. The Reds have moved on. They signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch in the summer of 2023 and are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment.
