Ruben Neves rejected interest from Liverpool in the summer with the midfielder keen to join Barcelona next year, according to a report from Sport.
Neves has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League. He is Wolves’ talisman and now wears the captain’s armband at Molineux.

Of course, the Reds had a major void to fill in the middle of the park. Ultimately, they signed Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus. But it appears that that deal only came about after failing to sign the Portuguese.
Photo by Naomi Baker/Getty ImagesSport is now reporting that Liverpool and Manchester United both approached Neves’ agents about a potential deal. However, he snubbed their interest.
Barcelona informed Neves that they want to sign him. But he was aware for some time that they did not have the funds to make a move this time around. And with that, he is prepared to wait until next summer when he hopes that they will take him to Camp Nou.
Neves reportedly has his sights set on joining Barca. However, there is a long way to go until the summer window opens. And with that, Liverpool may not be giving up hope.
Arthur is only on loan. He could do enough to convince Jurgen Klopp to try and sign him permanently. But there may be a good chance that he returns to Juventus at the end of the campaign.
And signing Neves would be a superb piece of business. He is a ‘sensational‘ talent heading into what should be the peak years of his career.
But it does seem that Liverpool are going to need Barcelona to drop the ball should they make a fresh move for Neves next year.
