Senior figures at Manchester City were really annoyed at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp even before yesterday’s game, according to the BBC.
The Reds picked up a 1-0 win at Anfield on Sunday after a fiery affair. Mohamed Salah’s brilliant second-half goal handed Klopp’s men the three points but there were some controversial moments in the game.
Phil Foden had a goal ruled out after Anthony Taylor was advised to review a possible foul by Erling Haaland on Fabinho in the build-up.
Klopp was also sent-off towards the end of the game for his furious reaction to the referee not awarding Salah a free-kick deep in City’s half.
But it seems that the German boss had already angered people at City due to his pre-match comments about the club.

The BBC reports that Klopp’s comments on ‘three clubs’ in the Premier League not having a financial ceiling actually annoyed senior figures at City.
“There are three clubs in world football who can do what they want financially,” Klopp said during the build-up to yesterday’s game.
“It’s legal and everything, fine, but they can do what they want. They will say: ‘Yeah but we have …’ but it’s exactly the fact.
“We have to look at it [and say]: ‘We need that and we need that and we have to look here and make it younger, and here a prospect and here a talent’ and that is what you have to do. And you compete with them.” as transcribed by the Guardian.
The BBC notes that people at City feel his comments riled visiting supporters and that they were needless.

The club said: “We are deeply disappointed to hear vile chants relating to football stadium tragedies from the away section during today’s game at Anfield. The concourse in the away section was also vandalised with graffiti of a similar nature.
“We know the impact such behaviour has on the families, survivors and all those associated with such disasters.
“We are working with the relevant authorities and we will also work with Manchester City in order to do our utmost to ensure these chants are eradicated from football altogether.”
Were Klopp’s comments on City fair?
Klopp clearly has some strong views on whether Liverpool should be competing with a financial powerhouse like City.
When asked how his side can compete with Guardiola’s men, Klopp said: “Oh, you won’t like the answer. You will not like the answer, and you all have the answer already. Nobody can compete with City in that.
“You have the best team in the world and you put in the best striker on the market. No matter what it costs, you just do it.
“I know City will not like it, nobody will like it, you’ve asked the question but you know the answer. What does Liverpool do? We cannot act like them. It is not possible. Not possible. It is just clear and again you know the answer.”
You can’t really argue with Klopp’s comments on City’s financial muscle. The German feels the Manchester club, along with PSG and Newcastle have no ceiling due to their ownership.
Liverpool have performed above expectations over the past few seasons when you take their spending into account. But at the same time, spending money doesn’t always guarantee success in football, as Manchester United have shown.
City have also been astute in terms of their signings under Guardiola, but there is certainly more room for error at the Etihad. The Reds will have to continue to be smart in the transfer market and ensure their signings improve Klopp’s side.
