Report: Saudi club now 'actively pursuing' £20m Liverpool player; they want a pre-contract signed ASAP

Liverpool’s hopes of steering clear of interest from Saudi Arabia in their players look like failing in the next few windows.

After a heavy pursuit of Mo Salah over the summer and players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho moving to the Middle East, the Reds board might be hoping for a break.

However, it doesn’t look like Saudi interest in Liverpool players is going away.

Indeed, while interest in Salah persists, CaughtOffside’s Ben Jacobs has now said that Saudi Arabian clubs are now actively pursuing midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Liverpool face fight to keep hold of Thiago

According to Jacobs, Saudi officials are now pushing hard to sign Thiago and want the Spaniard to sign a pre-contract agreement with them.

The £20m midfielder has had a number of huge injury problems ever since signing for Liverpool but there remains interest in his services.

Jurgen Klopp is also hoping Thiago can come back in the final part of the season as the Reds compete on a number of fronts to win trophies.

It’s claimed Steven Gerrard’s El-Ettifaq are one of the clubs who want to sign Thiago as it stands.

Thiago should move on

While we’ve seen question marks over the Saudi project this week come to light, Thiago has had such a rotten run with injuries that you can’t blame him if he signs for a Saudi team here.

A nice payoff at the end of a hugely successful career is not something any Reds fan would begrudge the midfielder.

Ultimately, Liverpool might be able to use the Saudi clubs’ spending to their advantage in the coming months.

It’s clear that the Saudi clubs will go again for big players and just like last summer, Liverpool could well get shut of a player on a big wage with ease.
