The Xabi Alonso dream at Liverpool is dead, and FSG are now on the lookout for a different manager.

Jurgen Klopp has entered the final few months of his spell at Liverpool. He will walk away at the end of the season, and he will be leaving behind massive shoes to fill.

The Reds’ priority target to replace the German was Xabi Alonso, but he has now come out and ruled out a move to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool have turned their attention to other options on their list, and many people on their board are said to be pushing for one particular manager to replace Klopp.

Liverpool’s hierarchy strongly support 44-year-old manager

Most people on Liverpool‘s board would’ve been in support of Xabi Alonso becoming their next manager.

The Spaniard has done a remarkable job at Bayer Leverkusen. He is on the verge of winning the Bundesliga title ahead of Bayern Munich, which is a fantastic achievement.

Alonso would’ve been ideal, but he has now decided against moving this summer, and that is a bit of a blow for Liverpool considering he was their top target.

Now, the Reds have to turn their attention to other names on their shortlist, and it has been revealed that Roberto De Zerbi is on top of Michael Edwards’ wish list.

Now, ESPN have shared some more insight into the thoughts of Liverpool’s board, and they have now claimed that De Zerbi is the top target.

It has been claimed that the 44-year-old Italian ‘has strong support within the Liverpool hierarchy’ and is ahead of Ruben Amorim at this moment in time.

Roberto De Zerbi’s release clause is a lot cheaper than Ruben Amorim’s

It seems clear now that the two managers on Liverpool’s radar following Xabi Alonso’s decision are Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim.

Both of them are top-class options.

The Italian, who has done a great job at Brighton since he replaced Graham Potter there, is on the radar of several clubs, and his release clause makes him very affordable. He’ll be available for just £9 million.

Ruben Amorim, on the other hand, will cost considerably more, with Fabrizio Romano revealing not too long ago that his release clause is set at £26 million – nearly three times as much as De Zerbi’s.
