Liverpool are now looking into appointing Ruben Amorim as the Sporting boss becomes one of the top candidates outside of Xabi Alonso.
Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool this summer and the Reds will be busy identifying potential replacements.
Klopp is still pushing for a Premier League title but Liverpool can’t afford to wait around.
Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso remains the key candidate right now but reports suggest that he may prefer a move to Bayern Munich.
Liverpool need to have other candidates in mind and it looks like one manager is now gathering momentum…
Liverpool want Ruben Amorim
The Independent now report that Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is emerging as a ‘main contender’ alongside Alonso.
It’s noted that Alonso is the most attractive candidate right now, but Amorim is the second choice.
Amorim is described as being a ‘likelier option’ for Liverpool than Brighton and Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi.
Some thought that De Zerbi’s experience of Premier League football may put him in the mix, but he seems to be lagging behind Amorim now.
Amorim has been described as ‘one of the best’ managers in the world by Pep Guardiola and he is now in the frame at Anfield.
The 39-year-old won a league title in 2021, taking Sporting to glory after just over a year in the job.

There is a real chance that Amorim adds another league title to his name this season and that could pave the way for a move to Anfield.
Amorim often uses a 3-4-3 system at Sporting, somewhat similar to Alonso at Leverkusen, so there could be some big changes at Liverpool if he lands the job.
Liverpool clearly have an eye on Portuguese football having landed the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from Portuguese clubs in recent times, so they could follow that up with a move for Sporting boss Amorim.
An exciting young manager with success already under his belt, Amorim is an interesting name in the mix – but few Liverpool fans would be backing him over Alonso right now.
