Newcastle United have endured a difficult season in which Eddie Howe has had to tend with many injuries, exposing the Toon’s lack of depth – but now, Howe could find his position is under threat.
Newcastle sit in 10th place in the Premier League table, still comfortable but far from the heroics of last season – in which they qualified for the Champions League. A late push for Europe is still a possibility.
He signed a new contract at Newcastle in the summer of 2022, but with the summer approaching, the Newcastle board – comprising of Amanda Staveley, Saudi Arabia’s PIF and more – could make a change.
Give Me Sport report that one option could be Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi. The Seagulls gaffer saw his side knocked out of the Europa League last night, but did beat Roma 1-0 – Danny Welbeck scoring.
Brighton sit just ahead of Newcastle in eighth – and De Zerbi is doing a wonderful job. So much, that the Italian is a man in demand. Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move to hire the Brighton boss.

The Reds are expected to pursue a move for Xabi Alonso before perhaps turning to De Zerbi, but they are not the only interested party. Micah Richards labelled him “special”, saying he can replace Klopp.
Give Me Sport now claim that Newcastle could look to De Zerbi if they decide to remove Howe as the club’s manager. But, nothing has been decided. He has a £9m release clause in his Brighton deal.
It would be harsh on Howe, given injuries have limited him this season on Tyneside. But, this is football – and the need for a change to freshen things up could be required. Howe will have plenty of options.
