Newcastle United and Liverpool will have find a mammoth fee in the region of £100m if they wish to sign Napoli’s star winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Reports back in November had linked the impressive Georgian attacker with a move to Liverpool. At the time, it was claimed that the Reds were essentially leading the race to sign him.
Kvaratskhelia has also been linked with Newcastle just this week. However, according to 90Min, Kvaratskhelia will only be leaving Naples if a club is willing to entertain a bid of around £100m.
Photo by SSC NAPOLI/SSC NAPOLI via Getty Images90Min states that a recently reported figure of around £50m is wide of the mark when it comes to Kvaratskhelia and that Napoli have no interest in such a fee. Instead the Italian side want to bring in similar to what Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish, such is their admiration of Kvaratskhelia.
Lauded by Owen Hargreaves as being ‘breathtaking to watch‘, Kvaratskhelia has certainly impressed in Serie A and the Champions League this season. He is already in double figures for assists and has added eight goals to the cause as well.
Napoli are known for getting good money for their star players. Newcastle and Liverpool, then, might need to splash out here.
TBR’s View: Kvaratskhelia staying in Naples at that price
While we might end up seeing Kvaratskhelia in England down the line, at the moment it just seems unfeasible.
Liverpool and Newcastle will want the best players they can in Europe. Kvaratskhelia is certainly on his way to being that but at £100m, it’s just too pricey.
Napoli are within their rights to demand such money. They want the best deal they can get. And further, they’ve only just signed him as well, meaning there’s no need to sell.
This could be one that gets revisited in the summer or even next year. For now, though, Liverpool and Newcastle might need to park it.
