Benfica talent Antonio Silva is likely to be on the move in the summer with Europe’s heavyweights chasing the central defender – and Manchester United are best-placed to sign the Liverpool target.
Still only 20, Silva has emerged as one of Portugal’s most eye-catching talents. Already clocking up 85 games for Benfica, Silva has been awarded seven caps for his country. He has a deal until June 2027.
Silva – described as “incredible” by former Manchester City coach Juanma Lillo – was linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United in January. But a move in the winter window was given no chance.
Now, Dean Jones provides an update on Give Me Sport’s website. He says that due to scout reports and the need for a centre-back opening up, Manchester United are best-placed to sign Reds target Silva.
The report states that Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Napoli are also interested in Silva. It reiterates that a release clause of £85m is included in Silva’s contract at Liga NOS side Benfica.

A move to Old Trafford would see Silva instantly become first choice and probably, United’s best option in the middle of the defence – despite the presence of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and plenty more.
Liverpool meanwhile, have Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate – while Joe Gomez is in excellent form. The defender has even been recalled by Gareth Southgate, who has enjoyed watching him recently.
Chelsea have options but need to replace Thiago Silva. Bayern are plentiful at centre-back, while both Dortmund and Napoli may be below Silva already. Old Trafford could be Silva’s best move this summer.
