Report: Liverpool willing to pay £3.5m-a-year to sign player who 'dominates' midfield

Liverpool are willing to give AC Milan midfielder, Ismael Bennacer, the contract he wants in order to sign him, according to reports.

Milan Reports, citing SportMediaset, claims that Liverpool are willing to give Bennacer the £3.5m-a-year he is demanding from Milan.

It’s claimed Milan are doing their best to keep Bennacer at the club but so far have only gone to around the £1.5m-a-year mark in wages. Bennacer is wanting much more, with £3.5m-a-year said to be his demand. And with Milan stalling on that amount, Liverpool are ready to pounce.

The Reds struck late in the transfer window to sign another player from Serie A in the form of Arthur Melo. However, all eyes will be on January and the summer, where Jurgen Klopp will hope to be backed in order to reshape his midfield that’s served him so well over the years.

Described as being a player with high technical qualities who can ‘dominate’ opponents, Bennacer has played more than 100 games for Milan and has just shy of 40 caps for Algeria. Very much in the mould of a Fabinho-type player, Bennacer is known best for playing at the base of the midfield in Serie A.

TBR’s View: Bennacer An Interesting One For Liverpool

There’s certainly a lot to like about Ismael Bennacer. A full international, a Serie A winner, and at 24, the ideal age for Jurgen Klopp to work with him and improve him further.

Should Liverpool choose to go for Bennacer, he wouldn’t be the most expensive option of those on the market. Given he isn’t on huge money in Milan as it is, it’s hard to see the Rossoneri demanding a huge sum for Bennacer.

For now, it’s one for Liverpool fans to watch. But it’s clear the Reds will be moving again in the market in the next few windows.
