Liverpool are expected to break a club record against Burnley today – one that people at Anfield have wanted to happen for over 20 years.

That is according to The Athletic.

So, what are Liverpool set to do? Let’s take a look…

Liverpool set to break club record

Well – according to The Athletic – Liverpool are expected to host Anfield’s biggest crowd for a league game when Burnley arrive on Merseyside today.

The Reds have finally finished an £80m redevelopment of the Anfield Road Stand – which means an additional 3,000 Liverpool fans can fit inside Anfield and take the total capacity beyond 60,000.

That number is a figure people at Liverpool are said to have been attempting to reach for over 20 years.

It means a record lasting 74 years is likely to end today.

Chelsea’s visit to Liverpool in December 1949 – which attracted 58,757 fans – is currently the most attended league game in history at Anfield.

Liverpool could be even more dominant at Anfield

The Reds are currently on a run of 23 games without defeat at Anfield – 18 of those have been wins with five draws.

It goes without saying that the raucous atmosphere inside Anfield plays a major part in Liverpool’s success on home soil, with opponents often speaking about how intimidating the noise can be.

Even Pep Guardiola admitted Anfield makes him “feel small” during an interview with ARA.

Therefore, with 3,000 Liverpool fans added to what is already a strong atmosphere, Jürgen Klopp could see his side become even more of a force at Anfield.

In truth, things had already moved up a gear after the German announced he would be leaving Liverpool this summer – as the 2023/24 campaign suddenly became a lot more emotional.

Hopefully, the new Anfield Road Stand is christened with a win against Burnley today.
