Liverpool are set for a busy summer, with Arne Slot set to take the reins from Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds are also set for changes at boardroom level, with Richard Hughes taking over as sporting director.

Slot, Hughes and Michael Edwards will look to do all they can to not only maintain continuity from the Klopp era, but to build on it.

There could well be changes to the Liverpool playing squad, with a number of players set to be out of contract this summer and next year.

Mohamed Salah is one of those players, and it remains to be seen what Liverpool have planned for him next season.

Now, a report from France has claimed that the Reds have set their sights on a player who has been compared to Salah.

According to L’Equipe, Liverpool are interested in Union Saint-Giloise forward Mohamed Amoura.

The report claims that, as well as Reds, Brighton are in the race for the 23-year-old. Indeed, the Seagulls are said to be frontrunners.

Who is Liverpool target Mohamed Amoura?

Born in the Algerian city of Tahir in May 2000, Amoura began his footballing journey with ES Setif in his home country.

In 2021, he moved to Swiss outfit Lugano. According to The National News, teammates soon began calling him “little Salah” in training.

This is because of his speed, his confidence on the ball and for the career parallels with the Liverpool icon.

Both are North African prodigies who joined a Swiss club at a young age and are enjoying great careers.

Amoura joined Union Saint-Giloise last year, and he has enjoyed a superb maiden season at the Belgian club.

To date, he has registered 23 goals and seven assists from 44 outings in all competitions. Indeed, two of these goal contributions came against Liverpool in the Europa League.

The ‘incredibly prolific‘ Amoura is also an Algeria international and played at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

In March, Voetbal Belgie reported that Amoura’s current market value is €10million, but his club wants €20million (£17million).

For less than £20million, Liverpool could potentially get themselves Salah’s long-term successor. Let’s hope that we get further developments on this front.
