Liverpool bolstered their midfield ranks in summer with the loan signing of Arthur Melo.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Reds decide to sign the Brazilian permanently.

Liverpool continue to be linked with other midfielders in the meantime.

French outlet Jeunes Footeux – via Sport Witness – has reported that the Reds are eyeing Sander Berge.

The Norway international has made a name for himself at Sheffield United since his arrival in 2020.

Even though the Blades since dropped to the Championship, Berge continues to impress.

The 24-year-old has helped his side go top of the Championship table after 10 matches.

And Liverpool are apparently ‘very attentive’ to Berge’s displays.

As well as the Reds, the likes of Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are also eyeing the 6ft 4in ace.

In fact, ‘it wouldn’t be surprising for offers to arrive on the table’ at Bramall Lane during the January transfer window.

It’s made clear the midfielder doesn’t have an exit pass with the Championship side.

But if Liverpool, Chelsea or any other club were to make ‘an offer of €35-40m’ (£31m-35m), then it could be enough to ‘win the prize’.

‘Unique’

A towering figure, Berge’s size gives him a big edge when it comes to protecting the back line as well as winning the ball further up the pitch.

Former United boss Chris Wilder waxed lyrical about the player, telling VG, as translated by Teamtalk: “I just have to say it: Sander has been unique.

“He is the one who has stood out for us. He is a complete midfielder, he can play as an 8 and as 6, he can play in different formations.”

On Twitter, fans have compared Berge to Nemanja Matic, Yaya Toure and William Carvalho.
