Liverpool’s quest to sign a new defender could take them back to young French star Leny Yoro, with Lille demanding a huge fee for the youngster.
Yoro is emerging as one of the brightest young defenders in Europe and is already a regular for the Ligue 1 side.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United are thought to be keen on signing Yoro. Real Madrid, too, have been credited with holding an interest in the teenager.
However, it is Liverpool’s interest which will catch the eyes of Reds fans today, with Le10 Sport claiming the Reds are ‘ready’ to sign the defender.
Liverpool ready to pay big for Leny Yoro
According to the report from the French outlet, a number of clubs in England are looking to sign Yoro.
Manchester United and City get a mention. But it is the line about Liverpool that is eye-catching.
Photo by ANP via Getty ImagesIt’s reported that the Reds are ‘ready to sign a nice cheque’ to win the race for Yoro.
That cheque could be a big one, though. It’s claimed in the same report that Lille’s ownership are demanding close to £78m for Yoro, such is their high valuation of him as a player.
Of course, Yoro has caught the eye of French legend Thierry Henry, who has dubbed the young defender as ‘extraordinary‘ for what he’s producing for Lille so far.
A price too high for Liverpool
Leny Yoro might be a big prospect and one for the future but there’s just no way Liverpool pay more than £70m for a defender like this.
Liverpool parted ways with a similar fee for Virgil van Dijk. But this was after the Dutchman had proved himself in England and with Celtic.
Yoro is doing the business for Lille right now and it’s no wonder Liverpool are watching.
But for the Reds to go and fork out £78m for Yoro in January would be quite wild.
Of course, you never know. But right now, this one is more likely to be done further down the line.
