Liverpool could sell their back up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher as the Ireland stopper looks to get more first-team football elsewhere.
Kelleher remains firmly behind Alisson Becker in the Liverpool pecking order as it stands. And with the Brazilian not going anywhere for a while, Kelleher knows chances will be limited.
The 24-year-old has done a fine job of stepping in for Alisson when needed and Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of his number two.
However, according to the Daily Mail, an offer of £20m would be enough for Liverpool to sell the Irish stopper.
BRUSSELS,Liverpool willing to sell Caoimhin Kelleher with replacement already identified
The report claims that while Klopp says it would take a huge offer for Kelleher to leave the club, £20m would actually be enough to do the trick.
Further, it’s claimed in the same report that Liverpool are looking at Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a ready-made replacement.
Patterson, 23, has impressed in the Championship and would no doubt relish the chance to step into a club like Liverpool.
Whether or not any sort of deal can be done in January, remains to be seen.
Liverpool are relying on a buyer for Kelleher and in the tricky winter window, it’s hard to see someone shelling out £20m to land him.
Kelleher needs to leave Liverpool
At 24, Kelleher is now at an age where he needs to and play all the time. His experience with Liverpool has done him good and he could easily go and be a number one elsewhere.
While in goalkeeping terms, 24 is still young, Kelleher knows he’ll need to be playing regularly if he is to maintain his place in the Ireland team.
Liverpool, of course, know they have an ‘exceptional’ goalkeeper on their hands in Kelleher.
But the Reds must also be realistic and that £20m figure sounds about right.
A number of clubs would take Kelleher and come the summer, it won’t surprise anyone if he makes a move away from Anfield.
