Liverpool are going to try and sign a new midfielder before the deadline passes and The Times claims Frenkie de Jong is an option for the Reds.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp admitted yesterday that there had been a change in the thinking at Liverpool after their dismal start to the season has seen them fail to win in their opening three games. The loss at Manchester United – where the midfield three were over run – seems to have been a trigger point for Klopp and his transfer team to assess new options.

The Dutchman has been linked with an exit from the La Liga giants all summer, with talk about owed wages and contract disputes dominating the press. It was widely expected he’d join Man United with Erik ten Hag. But there seems to be no progress on that deal, and the Red Devils have signed Casemiro too.
Liverpool, then, could well see an opportunity to go for De Jong. Dubbed as being a ‘perfect‘ signing for the Reds by former defender Jose Enrique, De Jong’s signing would certainly turn heads inside and outside of Anfield.
TBR’s View: De Jong To Liverpool Would Be Outrageous
A midfield of De Jong, Thiago and Fabinho is really something for Liverpool fans to dream big about and this would be quite the statement signing by the Reds.
FSG have backed Klopp this summer with the signing of Darwin Nunez. However, the midfield options needs evaluating and the injury issues haven’t helped the club at all.
If Liverpool can somehow pull De Jong out of the bag, then it will be huge for the club and the league in general.
