Liverpool are searching for a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp after the shock announcement from the German yesterday.

Klopp will depart Anfield at the end of the season and leave behind a massive legacy that will take some filling.

For Liverpool, work is apparently already underway as to who will replace Klopp. A number of names are already being chucked around, including current early favourite for the job, Xabi Alonso.

However, according to a report from Portugal, a new name, Ruben Amorim, is also on Liverpool’s list.

Liverpool add Ruben Amorim to list of potential Klopp replacements

According to Corriere da Manha, Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has been added to the list of managers Liverpool are looking at.

Amorim is only 39 but has been hugely impressive in Lisbon and guided Sporting to the title in 2021.

The Portuguese coach is well regarded over there and is credited with developing a number of top talents at Sporting who has since gone onto bigger and better things.

Amorim was a target for Tottenham in the summer before they landed Ange Postecoglou and as is stands, Sporting at top of the league under his guidance this season.

Liverpool would need to pay a hefty release-clause of around £17m if they do want to bring Amorim into the club.

FSG are believed to have been making moves behind the scenes already having known Klopp was moving on since November.

Amorim a good choice but he’ll need time

There’s always an element of the gamble when bringing in a new manager and the task of replacing Klopp at Liverpool will be huge for whoever gets the gig.

In Ruben Amorim, Liverpool would be setting on a manager who is young and up and coming but does already have good experience behind him as well.

Amorim has won things in Lisbon and that is an important aspect of coming into a club the size of Liverpool.

However, at 39, the job might just be a touch too big for him for now and given he has no links to the club anyway, someone like Xabi Alonso might be preferred.
