156 Liverpool are looking at who they can buy to come in as a new centre-back and could turn to Bayer Leverkusen star, Piero Hincapie.
Hincapie is one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders and has been linked with a move to Tottenham already.
The Ecuadorian defender is playing well once again and has been key in guiding Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga table ahead of Bayern Munich.
However, his form has caught the eye and according to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are now trying to position themselves to sign the defender.
Liverpool looking to beat Chelsea and others to Piero Hincapie
The report claims that Liverpool really like the look of Hincapie and that Jurgen Klopp is a personal fan of the young defender.
Hincapie, who is still only 21-years-old, has built a big reputation over in Germany and has been lauded as a ‘fabulous‘ defensive talent.
It’s claimed that Leverkusen aren’t wanting to put an asking price on the head of Hincapie as such, but it’s believed somewhere in the region of £60m might be enough to get the job done.
Liverpool aren’t the only ones looking at Hincapie though. Chelsea and Man City are also keen, and it looks like there could be a battle for the young centre-back come January.
Hincapie a star of the future
Some players just have star written all over them and Piero Hincapie is definitely one of them.
As young defenders in world football come, there aren’t too many better about right now when you combine the age profile and the talent as well.
Hincapie would be just what Jurgen Klopp needs at Liverpool right now. The injury to Joel Matip is an issue and Ibrahima Konate seems to have inconsistencies in his game.
At £60m, it’s not a cheap signing by any means. But Liverpool have shown they’ll spend in the past and Hincapie ticks so many boxes he might be hard to avoid.
